TTVAM is pleased to invite you to its seminar titled STRATEGIES OF PROPAGANDA IN VISUAL COMMUNICATION

The purpose of the seminar is to bring together researchers from different countries and the various areas to share experiences and information on how the propaganda is being spread via visual communication. This subject is particularly relevant to our cultural environment, due to the years of Soviet occupation, when society was poisoned with ideological messages on a daily basis, that had to help citizens to orientate in the surrounding world "proper" way. In fact, any totalitarian regime is based on propaganda that uses images to communicate the ideas; but also so-called democratic countries use propaganda at certain points. Also this question can be researched from the perspective of consumer society, where the need for consumption is created and stimulated by using a variety of images.
Topic of propaganda is particularly relevant in today's virtual world of networks, where through fictional or adjusted images actively pressing user with the distorted concept of reality and own identity with the purpose of encouraging his consumerism. Very important part of the workshop will be discussion where representatives from different countries will exchange their own cultural experiences. The program of seminar also includes the screening of films and tour of propaganda sites in Vilnius.
Workshop participants are invited to speak on following issues among others:
Propaganda as a basic point of a totalitarian regime Soviet propaganda; The political propaganda in democracies; Propaganda of advertising; The internet as a tool for propaganda
